Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administers and interprets the zoning ordinance, subdivision code, and comprehensive plan.
- Reviews development proposals, site plans, variances, and conditional use permits.
- Provides staff support to the Plan Commission, Board of Adjustment, and other public bodies.
- Coordinates with developers, architects, engineers, and property owners.
- Manages long-range planning efforts, including housing, economic development, and land use studies.
- Prepares and presents reports, maps, and recommendations to city leadership and the public.
- Oversees public outreach for planning projects and community engagement activities.
- Supervises assigned staff, contractors, or consultants.
- Tracks grant opportunities related to planning, housing, and neighborhood improvement.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, Geography, or related field (required).
- Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of progressively responsible planning experience.
- Experience in municipal government or community development (preferred).
Certifications:
- AICP Certification (preferred, required within first year of employment).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of urban planning principles, zoning laws, and land development processes.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyze site plans, zoning maps, and legal documents.
- Familiarity with public meeting procedures and government processes.
- Proficiency with GIS, Microsoft Office, and permit management systems.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with the public and other departments.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based, with field inspections as needed. Evening meetings required (e.g., Plan Commission).
